SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

Our primary interest is to discover outstanding original video and/or film work produced by young people across the country and around the world. The program will feature a juried competition and a non-competitive section, with screenings at The Hamptons International Film Festival (HIFF) for both programs.

The festival will offer awards to winning videos in the juried-competitive program, and cash and in-kind prizes to the Best Young Videomaker in the Golden Starfish Competition, the festival’s highest awards category. Please thoroughly check the submission guidelines and criteria to determine your eligibility.

Selected youth-produced shorts or excerpts (5 minutes or less) will be shown as trailers before adult-produced HIFF programs, where appropriate. We will try to match youth-produced videos with existing festival programs.

Our programmers and our panel of youth and adult/industry judges will take many qualities into consideration, including artistic originality, quality of presentation, production value, and the ability to communicate a message clearly. If your video is selected for the Youth Media Program at The Hamptons International Film Festival, you will receive written-feedback from our panel of youth videomakers, industry and filmmaker judges.

In our non-competitive program, we encourage intergenerational collaboration and group projects in all categories. What does this mean to us? We recognize that artistic growth occurs when young people work alongside adult artists and mentors. It is our goal to highlight these collaborations in the Youth Media Program. However, we are not interested in work that is conceived and executed primarily by adults. Please help us to maintain the integrity of this program.

Submitted videos will be considered for inclusion in DROP-TV, a television show produced by Children’s Media Project’s team of youth producers. Through our curation of the Youth Media Program at the Hamptons International Film Festival, we are able to identify and evaluate some of the best short videos being produced by young people from throughout the United States and around the world. Through DROP-TV, we can further highlight the work of young artists.
